The ISTernship Summer Program 2025 in Austria is one of the most prominent and well-known international internship programs. The program will last around two to three months, and there are no application costs. The program will choose 30 to 40 students, both graduate and undergraduate, from anywhere around the world.

When students initially come, ISTerns will provide an introduction of ISTA research and the ISTA Graduate School. Why participate in the ISTernship Summer Program 2025?

ISTernship (pronounced “IST-” + “(int)ernship”) is a summer internship program for bachelor’s and master’s students who desire to get more experience in scientific research. Selected applicants have participated in the ISTernship program since 2013, collaborating closely with a member of our faculty or a lab member on a small research project each summer.

The ISTernship program offered to students with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students with an interest in basic research in the following fields encouraged to apply: biology, mathematics, computer science, data science and scientific computing, physics, neuroscience, chemistry and materials, and interdisciplinary disciplines. Those who finished their bachelor’s or master’s degree within one year of the program’s start date are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

So, candidates must register in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program (or something comparable).
They required to have completed at least half of their bachelor’s degrees (prior to the commencement date).
All students are encouraged to apply, regardless of citizenship or place of residence.
The applicant must be a full-time Bachelor’s or Master of Science (or equivalent) student in good standing at a degree-granting institution.
They must have completed the fourth semester of their bachelor’s degree prior to the matched start date.
Applicants may also have completed their master’s or bachelor’s degrees within a year of the program’s start date.
Students who are already enrolled or have been accepted for a PhD degree are not eligible to apply.
All short-term mobility programs, including ISTA and Russia, have been halted.
Candidates who are presently enrolled in Russian institutions are ineligible to apply for the ISTernship invitation.
