The German Catholic Church’s scholarship programme for postgraduate students and scientists from (developing) nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Near and Middle East, and Eastern and South eastern Europe is the Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD Scholarships 2024). Why KAAD Scholarships 2024?
By providing scholarships, educational opportunities, and counselling on personal and spiritual matters, it supports its scholarship winners in light of their growing activities in their home countries in the future. This is done in partnership with partner committees and organisations of previous scholarship winners in various countries with the aim of developing (academic) networks and contributing to holistic development that takes into consideration the religious and interreligious components.
In the 1950s, when German Catholics began to pay greater attention to the issues and duties of the world, lay groups in particular learnt about the opportunities that may grow in this field through interactions with students from abroad. Thus, a suggestion made by the Catholic Congress in Fulda in 1954 led to the creation of KAAD. It received official legal recognition in 1958 as a non-profit corporation with its headquarters in Bonn. Eligibility Criteria
If any of the following apply to you, you may apply for the KAAD Scholarship Programme:
- live in a rising or developing nation in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, or Asia.
- possess a university degree and professional experience in your place of origin
- Want to obtain a master’s or a PhD at a German institution as well as conduct a post-doctoral research project there (2–6 months for seasoned university instructors).
- you adhere to a Christian denomination or are a fervent Catholic. Therefore, applicants from other religions are encouraged to apply as long as they come highly recommended by Catholic allies and can show that they are dedicated to interreligious dialogue.
- You should speak German fluently before starting your studies (KAAD may provide a maximum 6-month language course in Germany).
